Farewell to a Concordia Legend: Mr. Erik Paulson

Many of you must have had him as a teacher. Or a coach. Or a familiar face around campus — the one you'd spot in the most unexpected places. After 18 years at Concordia, Erik Paulson is embarking on his next journey, but he leaves behind a legacy that won't be forgotten.

For nearly two decades, he brought CISSMUN to life, led the APAC Table Tennis team to victory, and made AP Economics come alive for countless students. And then there were his speeches at the high school graduation ceremonies — always thoughtful, always deep, and unmistakably him.

2008.

The students.

Best moment was winning APAC table tennis in 2025.

Q4: Do you have a parting message for your students?

Don’t ever think you deserve your good fortune. You were born to privilege; you haven’t earned it.

Q5: What are your plans after leaving Concordia/Shanghai? Where will your next chapter take you?

I’m moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I will be joining the History Department at a private school called Albuquerque Academy.

Erik, thank you for 18 years of wisdom and wit. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Good luck in New Mexico!
