Back in 2008, the Tai family made a life-changing decision: they voted unanimously to relocate from the United States to Shanghai to adopt a Chinese baby girl. Evelin, the mother, a former economist, was working part time at her children’s school. Her husband, Earl, was a university professor in New York City. At the time of the move, their children, Karis and Elijah, were in elementary school at a private school.
